Solid Mechanics
Specific subject description
Solid Mechanics is a broad discipline that includes the mechanics of deformable structures. The group in Solid Mechanics develops material models based on micromechanical observations and the laws of thermodynamics. The position in question has a focus on materials modelling based on large strain theory and coupled problems with applications in nonlinear finite element analysis and its numerical strategies. The applicant should have a strong background in computational mechanics.
Job assignments
This position involves research, teaching, supervision and some administrative work. Teaching duties will be at basic, advanced and graduate levels in subjects related to solid mechanics. Teaching at the basic level is preferably conducted in Swedish. In addition to own research, supervision of graduate students is part of the duties.
Duties also include preparation of project proposals and applications to external funders.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
To be eligible as Senior Lecturer it is required to have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualifications or other professional skills of relevance to the subject and tasks and proven pedagogical skills. It is also required to have at least five weeks of education in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired equivalent knowledge, unless there are special reasons.
Very good skills in English, both spoken and written is also a requirement.
Basis of Assessment
In the assessment of the applicants, particular attention will be given to both scientific and pedagogical skills, with equal weight. Evaluation of teaching skills will be based on documented experience at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels; a good understanding of learning processes should be demonstrated. Ability to conduct independent research is of great importance for the position. Furthermore, an established international network and the ability to develop international cooperation is important. Experience of successfully attracting external funding is desirable.
Consideration will also be given to good interpersonal skills, drive and independence plus how the applicant's skills and experience complement and strengthen research and education at the institution. As the department's experimental activities recently has been strengthened, it is an advantage if applicants can demonstrate the benefit of experimental activities in their research.
We expect that an applicant who does not speak Swedish will aquire sufficient skills to be able to teach and communicate with University bodies adequately in Swedish within three years of taking up the position.
