Hereby advertises a position as PhD in Gender Studies

Duties
As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research project of which you are a part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

This position is part of the new "Sex Media, Sex Cultures" research area in the Gender Studies division of the Department of Thematic Studies. This research area builds on research in media and cultural studies, as well as feminist, technoscientific and political histories of the body and sexuality, to critically examine modern and contemporary sex cultures and their media and technological infrastructures.

We wish to employ a PhD student aiming to shine new light into contemporary sex cultures and the role of media therein, ideally with a focus on the triangulation of embodied subjectivities, sex, and media infrastructures in the 21st century. The candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary manner across the fields of gender studies, critical humanities, and broader cultural studies. Perspectives and methods related to media studies, visual culture, queer studies, porn studies, and/or (post-)subcultural studies are of particular interest.

Qualifications
You have graduated at Master 's level or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be on advanced level. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.

Special qualifications: 90 credits of your total credits should be in a subject of central importance to the research area, including qualifications in gender studies at a minimum of 45 credits or equivalent, that the applicant has acquired integrated into disciplinary studies, in single subject courses or in a gender studies program.

Documented proof of scientific competence in one or several of the following areas is a requirement:

• Cultural Studies
• Media Studies
• Sexuality Studies
• Visual Culture

Documented proof of scientific competence in one or several of the following areas is a merit:

• Feminist technoscience
• Medical Humanities
• Qualitative methods
• Science & Technology Studies

The position requires a high level of English language proficiency. The successful applicant is expected to acquire Swedish language proficiency within two years of employment.

Workplace
Tema Genus is a creative and dynamic unit with an international profile in interdisciplinary and thematic gender research and education. Gender Studies at Tema Genus spans a wide range of fields, for instance: feminist, queer, trans, postcolonial, race, posthuman, environmental, dis/ability, body, science and cultural studies. Tema Genus also directs collaborative international research centers such as the excellence center GEXcel international Collegium and the postgraduate research training consortium InterGender, and hosts a pioneering PhD programme, and an international Master's programme in Gender Studies - Intersectionality and Change (with single subject courses at MA- as well as BA-level).

The employment

The employment has a duration of four years' full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.
