The Department of Languages and Literatures is the Faculty of Art's largest department with 12 different language subjects, around 130 staff members, a student volume of 1051 full-time equivalents and a yearly turnover of about 90 million. The Department's research concerns the languages of the world and their literature from a broad cultural contextualisation and a wide spectrum of theoretical foundations and specific applications. These are concentrated around five research profiles: Life Writing; Diversity and Universals in the Language; Pop Culture; Languages and Learning; and Transculturality, Translation and Transmission.

French with a specialisation in Linguistics and Learning
Specific subject description
The subject - French - is an education/research subject with a linguistic and literary orientation. Degrees are awarded at all levels including for third-cycle studies and teacher education. Education is offered at first, second and third cycle level. The University of Gothenburg offers both Bachelor's and Master's (60 and 120 higher education credits) degrees with French as main field of study. Courses are also offered as freestanding courses and as part of the Special Subjects Teacher Programme and the programmes in Professional Translation, International Languages, World Literature, Business and Economics, and Language and Intercultural Communication.
Job assignments
The position includes mainly teaching and supervision of students at first- and second-cycle level, in both freestanding courses and study programmes offered at the Department. Research activities will also be required to some extent. In addition, the holder of the position will be expected to participate in the development of courses and study programmes. Administrative duties may also be assigned. The successful
applicant will be expected to participate broadly in the Department's activities and, if needed, assist with pedagogical supervision.

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
In the assessment of applicants' qualifications, equal attention will be given to teaching skills and scholarly proficiency in the relevant subject area. In the selection process, attention will be given to documented qualifications within the following areas in
particular:
• Pedagogical proficiency demonstrated via documented experience of planning and implementation of teaching activities, including student supervision and examination;
• Research-related and scholarly qualifications, which will be assessed in relation to degree of originality, international orientation and future outlook;
• Background in teacher training and/or courses focusing on learning as well as in oral proficiency instruction;
• Strong proficiency in French (the position requires language skills at native level, acquired as a French-speaking native or in other ways);
• Ability to lead and administer teaching activities (background as a course director/coordinator).
The ability to teach in English is an advantage.
Additional information
An applicant who has not completed formal training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least 15 higher education credits, and who cannot be deemed to have acquired the corresponding knowledge in any other way, shall undergo such training during the first two years of employment.
Applicants who do not speak Swedish at the time of employment will be expected to acquire the necessary written and orally proficiency within two years, in order to be able to teach and participate in administrative and other relevant activities conducted in Swedish.
The assessment of applicants may also include interviews and trial lectures etc.
