About the job
The British International School of Stockholm is now seeking to employ a School Nurse to join our student care team, at our Altorp site (around 200 students aged between 3 and 9 years old). The key purposes of the role are to: provide a school nursing service and first aid provision to ensure optimal health and wellbeing, allowing pupils to participate fully and actively in school life; to follow the students personal and physical development and to provide primary healthcare services to pupils. We are looking for a hard-working, organised and friendly colleague who is passionate about children's wellbeing and somebody who has an interest in international education. Our ideal candidate must have good interpersonal skills, be trustworthy, reliable, punctual and confident working with children.
Responsibilities and expectations
Providing day to day health and pastoral care
Providing regular health checks (height, weight, spine, eyesight, hearing and wellbeing)
Administering medication according to BISS's Administration of Medicines Policy
Promoting healthy lifestyle and eating, including involvement in monitoring school lunches
Offering advice and support to parents, who may be new to the Swedish system
Implementing vaccination programmes according to national guidelines
Liaising with relevant staff to advise on health education aspects of the curriculum
Assisting in the teaching and training of both pupils and teaching staff (e.g., First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis)
Compiling and maintaining pupil health records and notes of visits and treatments
Assisting in referrals to outside agencies, where appropriate
Ensuring first aid boxes are in place and replenished as required throughout the school
Providing first aid kits for journeys and trips and visits
Ensuring safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs
Providing information for the newsletter or for other items, alerting parents about certain illnesses
Ensuring the storage and communication of personal information complies with the GDPR
Taking responsibility for personal professional development to meet the requirements of the role and ensure best nursing practice
Organising of school doctor's visits
Minimum qualifications
Eligibility to work in Sweden
Good spoken and written English
Good spoken and written Swedish
Registered nurse with licence to work in Sweden as a nurse
A warm, welcoming and helpful nature
Strong organisational and administrative skills
General IT competency
A commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
Strong interest in working with children
Knowledge of health promotion, child protection, education and screening, with some insight into the health needs of children
Diplomatic and discreet, with personal integrity
Preferred qualifications
Specialist child, school or district nurse
Experience of working in a school and/or with children
Knowledge of the Swedish health system and school linked agencies
Able to take initiative and have a proactive approach to problem solving
