Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 380 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
The Institute is composed of the following five departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Pathology and Genetics
• The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Our research group studies the role of the immune system in development of allergy and inflammatory bowel disease. We study whether lymphocyte biomarkers may be used to predict which children who will develop the syndrome LTFA (liver-transplantation associated food allergy) after liver transplantation. In another study, we analyze whether lymphocyte biomarkers may predict which infants who will develop allergy. We are now in need of a person who can perform data analysis using multivariate methods, finalize manuscripts based on this research and submit them for publication.
Job assignments
Write scientific manuscripts based on flow cytometry data and other immune biomarkers. Analyze flow cytometry results and other immune biomarkers by multivariate analysis (principal component analysis and similar methods) with focus on B and T lymphocyte maturation markers in studies of children with inflammatory bowel disease and liver transplantation-induced food allergy, including multivariate statistics.
Qualifications
A PhD in the field of immunology with profound knowledge regarding B and T lymphocyte phenotypes is required. Extensive experience from flow cytometric analysis is required and should be documented in the form of scientific papers. Proficiency in multivariate data analysis is required, including knowledge regarding principal component analysis and similar methods; this should also be documented by own publications using these methods. Knowledge regarding inflammatory bowel disease and allergy are considered as merits. Proficiency in the English language is required and research experience in an English-speaking country is a merit. We expect the candidate to be skilful, organized and flexible with high capacity to work independently and in a structured way.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 8 months, full-time, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine, Department of Infectious Diseases. First day of employment: As agreed.
