Project description
The School of Sport and Health Sciences, GIH, has received a project grant to study how neuromusculoskeletal impairment affects activities in daily life, leisure time physical activity (LTPA) and sports. This four-year project aims to increase the understanding of how ergonomics, orthopedic technical aids and sports equipment affect the functional capacity in non-active and sport-active wheelchair users. The project is carried out in collaboration with Swedish companies, LTPA and sport organizations, rehabilitation clinics and sport federations as well as national and international universities. The knowledge from the project should generate information on how manufacturers, therapists, orthopedic engineers/technicians, coaches and others can optimize the person - equipment - interface, how the load on the shoulder joint can be minimized to reduce the risk of overuse injuries, and how seating can be optimized reducing the risk for pressure ulcers. Research outcomes will be translated to the rehabilitation and sport sector and included into GIH's study programs.
Work tasks
The tasks include writing research grants, ethical applications, and supervising Master and PhD-students during data collection. Laboratory assistance is expected in clinical, functional and objective measurements of arm and trunk function in people with neuromusculoskeletal impairment, using advanced biomechanical equipment. You will work independently, develop of study ideas within the framework of the project, analyze data, write scientific articles, and present results at scientific conferences. Your work also includes having a close collaboration and continuously interaction with all (non-)academic partners. We also expect good research routines, e.g. research administration and documentation.
Eligibility requirements
Eligible to be employed is anyone who:
• obtained a doctoral degree in sports sciences, movement sciences, rehabilitation sciences, medicine, biomedical sciences or equivalent fields.
• has the personal characteristics as described in GIH's employment policy (GIH:s medarbetarskapspolicy) to work in an academic professional environment.
Assessment grounds
The following assessment criteria have been established for this employment:
• Most important are documented scientific skills in the research domain of (para-)sports, physical activity, biomechanics/ergonomics/technology, rehabilitation, or equivalent.
• Most important is your personal suitability for the position, including the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, to work nationally and internationally in research and development and being able to work in a structured and organized manner.
• Most important is your experience of using biomechanical measurement methods, conducting statistical analyses, interpretation and implementation of results.
• Great importance is your capacity to interact with organisations, authorities, companies or similar.
• Great importance is placed on good language skills in English (written and spoken) and academic writing.
• Great emphasis is placed on experience in writing research grants, applications to the Ethics Review Authority and scientific manuscripts.
• Emphasis is placed on being engaged and interested in para sports.
• Emphasis is placed on documented experience of previous supervision.
Duration/Working time
The positions are two permanent positions corresponding to 50% of full time with a six-month probationary period. Starting date to be agreed on, but not earlier than November 1, 2022.
