Project description
The Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre (GGBC) was launched on January 1st, 2017 and is hosted by the Department of Biological and Environmental Science (
http://bioenv.gu.se). It is now entering its half-time review period, and funding for a second 3-year period will be decided in late 2019. The Centre has two main goals: to further develop biodiversity research, and to bridge the gap between scientists, the public and industry through various outreach activities. The Centre represents a long-term collaboration among the following institutions at the University of Gothenburg: the Department of Marine Sciences, the Department of Biological and Environmental Science, the Department of Geosciences, Herbarium GB, the Centre for Sea and Society, and the Linnaeus Centre for Marine Evolutionary Biology. Moreover, it comprises the following organisations: Department of Technology Management and Economics, Chalmers University of Technology, Havets Hus, Maritime Museum and Aquarium, Nordens Ark, The Gothenburg Museum of Natural History, and Universeum Science Centre.
Job assignments
We are seeking a project coordinator to further the development of the Centre. The work includes, among other things, carrying out communication responsibilities for the centre, organising conferences and meetings, following up on project executions, compiling reports and newsletters, updating the homepage, and patricipating in discussions of strategic priorities. You will participate and contribute in the development of goals, contents and follow-up of tasks of the GGBC.
The position will also include responsibility for the coordination of the GGBC's involvement in the European-Commission funded SYNTHESYS+ (
http://www.synthesys.info/), including organization of biodiversity informatics training and harmonization of laboratory protocols.
The position will also include leading an investigation into how the GGBC and the strategic research area: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate (BECC, which includes GU and Lund) can best interact and promote each other, regarding research and outreach. This work should result in a short report. The person will further be responsible for the BECC social media (Twitter, and contributions to the newsletter) and may be required to make occasional short trips to Lund to meet with BECC members and coordinators. You will work closely with the GGBC's steering board, leadership, and the administrative staff at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. You will contribute to strengthen and improve relations within the GGBC and with external organisations within the field.
