The Institute of Health and Care Sciences is a national and international lead in person-centred care, which permeates our education, research and innovation. The department is organized by sections in the form of academic environments which consist of interdisciplinary profile areas. In the academic environments, the combined research and education competence is integrated in order to promote quality in both education, research and collaboration.
The institute conducts professional education for nurses, radiography nurses, midwives and specialist nurses. In addition, commissioned training and single subject courses are given on advanced level, which provides the opportunity for studies leading to a master's degree in one of the department's main areas; nursing, radiography and healthcare pedagogics. The department also conducts education at the doctoral level in health and care sciences and commissioned training.
The Institute of Health and Care Sciences is home to a research centre, University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-centred Care (GPCC). GPCC is a national interdisciplinary research center that was established in 2010 with the support of the government's strategic investment in healthcare research. Subject area description
Care science is based on a humanistic view and generates knowledge about caring in connection with health, ill health, and illness. It includes the preservation, promotion, and recovery of health in relation to the person's life situation, the biological body, and socio-cultural aspects. The starting point is taken in an ethic which states that care providers meet the patient and close relatives, in a partnership, to promote health. In addition, informal care and nursing, the organization of health care, activities, and environments, as well as conditions for the health and care of the person and the population are studied.
Duties
The duties include conducting competitive national and international person-centered care research. The research should contribute to Sahlgrenska Academy and University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-centred Care (GPCC) having a forefront position in the research area of person-centered care, which focuses on the development and evaluation of clinical interventions for person-centered care, enabling the transition to person-centered health care in the society and the development of partnerships between patient representatives, the general public and healthcare organizations.
It also includes actively seeking national and/or international external research grants as well as contributing to the strategic development of research in multidisciplinary (cross-faculty) collaborations so that knowledge development has societal relevance and can be utilized within health care (in Sweden regionally as well as municipally organised) and informal care.
The tasks also include academic leadership, and holding internal and external commissions of trust as well as providing support to junior researchers in the development of design, research projects and applications.
Teaching will preferably include interprofessional person-centred care within the institut's courses, at within first, second and third cycles of higher education. Furthermore, supervision of students and doctoral students at all educational levels is included. In teaching, collaboration is prioritized for the strategic development of programmes, courses and learning activities that support person-centred learning with a focus on health professionals.
Collaboration is key for to the development of knowledge about person-centred care and for employment, which ranges from collaboration within the department, various stakeholders within GPCC and activities within the healthcare sector as well as with researchers, patient and informal carer representatives, health professionals, and leaders in health care, nationally and internationally.
Other duties could also be included and may change over time.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a professor is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
Eligibility to be employed as a professor is someone who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skills. This position also requires a doctorate in a relevant subject for the position. A requirement is also to master Swedish and English in both speaking and writing.
