We are looking for you that want to contribute to future sustainable plant production, with focus on primary food production in Sweden. We offer a postdoctoral position within plant pathology and disease resistance breeding in pea, with focus on wilt disease.
About the position
Pea production is threatened by several different diseases. One of these diseases is fusarium wilt, caused by fungal pathogens from the Fusarium genus, which make plants sensitive to drought. In order to increase production, more sustainable and efficient plant protection strategies must be developed. One such strategy is plant breeding for increased disease resistance. In this project, new infection systems for Fusarium on pea will be developed in close collaboration with the company Findus Sverige AB. Phenotypic variation in the pathogen will be studied in greenhouse and field trials, while genetic variation will be studied using DNA-based methods. Results from the project will be implemented in a commercial breeding programme.
Your profile
We are looking for a motivated person with specific expertise in microbiology and plant pathology.
Qualification requirements
• Completed doctor's degree in agronomy, microbiology, plant pathology, or similar.
• Advanced conceptual and analytical ability in relevant areas.
• Experience of research in plant-pathogen interactions.
• Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English.
Meritorious qualities
• Good knowledge of plant diseases and infection system.
• Good knowledge of working with fungi.
• Good knowledge of DNA-based analyses of genetic diversity.
Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities such as ability to work independently, flexibility, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, to be constructive in scientific collaborations, curiosity and willingness to learn as well as good analytical skills.
The position is intended for a junior researcher and we are primarily looking for people who have completed their doctorate no more than three years ago.
Application should be written in English and must contain (i) CV (curriculum vitae) with full publication list, (ii) a cover letter including a short description of previous research experiences (max 2 pages), (iii) a copy of PhD diploma, and (iv) contact information of at least two reference persons familiar with the applicant's earlier scientific work.
