Main part of the activities will be performed at Chalmers, Gothenburg, at the Swedish west coast. A close contact to an industry network is part of this undertaking.
Project description
You will research among peers active on a large variety of material science topics. State of the art analytical and microscopy techniques will be employed and thereby be part of your education. The division of Energy and Materials hosts a number multidisciplinary smaller groups with the goal to research on inorganic materials including alloys in terms of their applicability, longevity and recyclability in an increasingly diversified energy landscape. Such energy technologies include for example heat-storage, thermal transfer and also nuclear applications.
You will have the opportunity to represent your research and findings in journals and at internal conferences.
Coatings are constantly adapted for the use in high temperature water. In this case, the purpose implies the resistance of activated isotope ion absorption from reactor water into oxide films and thereby to avoid unnecessary radiation field build-up. The benefit is an improved working environment safety.
Major responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include the execution of a research plan and its continuous revisions together with your supervisor and project partners depending on intermittent results. You will take responsibility for the design of a coating process. For microstructural investigations you have a metallographic preparation lab, electron microscopy and X-ray facilities available among others. Your findings will be discussed regularly within the project group and summarized as reports. Novelty results are supposed to be published in international journals as well as presented at relevant conferences.
As PhD student you will be part of the Chalmers Research School system, which is directing the PhD process. Besides the research project, you are expected to attend and pass a number of PhD courses and possibly summer schools to extend on your education.
Furthermore, you will also have teaching assignments on undergraduate level, which can cover up to 20% of your employment.
