The employee who is employed as a doctoral student must mainly devote himself to his/her own postgraduate education with the work transferred to Malmö University. However, a doctoral student may, with a limited amount, not more than 20% during the period of employment, work with education and administrative work. Provisions for employment as a PhD student are contained in the Higher Education Ordinance, chapter 5 and section 1-7.

Eligibility requirements for admission
In order to be admitted, the basic competencies required by the Higher Education Ordinance are required, as well as special qualifications decided by the Faculty Board.
Basic eligibility has the following;
1. Have passed a degree at the advanced level
2. Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or
3. Acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in any other way within or outside the country.

Special admission requirements
Special eligibility have those who have at least 90 higher education credits in criminology or a subject related to criminology, of which 30 higher education credits at advanced level.
Good knowledge of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

Malmö University is one of Sweden's largest universities with approximately 25 000 students. January 1, 2018 gets college university status and becomes Malmö University.

At the Department of Criminology, research is conducted in a number of different areas concerning issues of crime and victimization. Research is being developed in close cooperation with local actors, national organizations and authorities as well as international academic partners. Our research has a broad theoretical and empirical focus. More specifically, research is mainly conducted within these areas: criminal careers, comparative criminology, the geography of crime, intimate partner violence, hate crime, juvenile crime, crime prevention, drug abuse and addiction, mental illhealth.

Varaktighet, arbetstid
Employment is full-time and time restricted according to Higher Education Ordinance 5 Chap. 7 §. Starting date: 1 march 2018 or according to agreement.
