This doctoral position at Chalmers University of Technology offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge research in synthetic grid dynamics, e-fuel production, and electrified ports. With secondments at leading experts and institutions like the Technical University of Denmark (DTU-Management) and Fortum Power and Heat, you'll develop innovative solutions for sustainable energy integration. This role is perfect for candidates passionate about making a significant impact on the future of sustainable transportation and energy systems.

Information about the division and the department
The Ports as Energy Transition Hubs (POTENT) Marie Skodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network is an exciting initiative aimed at exploring how ports can accelerate the clean energy transition in Europe. Led by Copenhagen Business School, this network seeks 15 qualified PhD candidates with interests in Energy Infrastructure, Maritime Economics, Ports, and Data Science.

The candidate will be located at the division of Physical Resource Theory, Chalmers University of Technoligy, Gothenburg, Sweden. The division carries out research and education on potential solutions to our major environmental challenges, e.g. global warming and sustainable use of land and other resources. At our division we focus on research in the field of technical and socio-economic systems addressing the challenges involved in the transition into a sustainable and low carbon society for a growing poulation, where a range of different quantitative and qualitative methods can be applied on our reseach topics. The ambition is to build challenge-driven scientific excellence by crossing traditional boundaries and increase the level of multi-disciplinarity in research. The division has around 50 staff members, faculty and PhD-students with diverse expertise, including engineers, natural and social scientists. We also offer courses in areas related to our research.

Major responsibilities
This specific doctoral position will be based at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. The research will focus on synthetic grid dynamics, e-fuel production, and electrified ports. Key activities include:

• Developing Synthetic Reference Grids: Tailored for electrified ports in Europe.
• Assessing Grid Impacts: Establishing methodologies to evaluate the effects of electrified transport and e-fuel production on the grid.
• Conducting Real-World Case Studies: Understanding the practical implications and challenges of integrating electrified ports into the grid.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the Technical University of Denmark and Fortum Power and Heat in Finland, gaining valuable international experience. This project aims to deliver open-source synthetic reference grid models, guidelines for grid impact assessment, and detailed case study reports, contributing to the global push for sustainable transportation and energy solutions.

Qualifications

The candidate must be in compliance with the Marie Skodowska-Curie mobility rule (not having resided in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months in the last 36 months).

Mandatory educational qualifications:
A Master's degree in a relevant field, such as:Electrical Engineering or Power Management, Control Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Operational Research, or Computer Engineering.

Meritorious educational qualifications:
