You will be part of Technology and Solutions Development, within the Power Grids division, in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems.

The Valve Development Department is a part of ABB Technology and Solutions Development in Ludvika and it is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC valves. HVDC valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. The Valve Development Department has around 17 employees, focusing mainly on electrical and mechanical design, and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization. Please find out more about our world leading technology at www.abb.com/hvdc.

Would you like to help us develop the HVDC technology of tomorrow? As our new Electrical Design Development Engineer you will work with power electronics in high power transmission applications, Power Grids HVDC. On a regular basis you will perform semiconductor valve calculations and simulations in order to find out voltage stresses and losses in the semiconductors and valve electronics. The theoretic calculations will be combined with high power testing in our test laboratories. As a development engineer, working with cutting edge technology, you will need to address many kinds of technical challenges.

You hold a Master of Science, in Power Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. Work experience from similar industries is preferable. It is equally valuable if you have worked with software like MATLAB or PSCAD. As you will be part of a company that operates on the global arena, you must be proficient in English. Preferably you are also fluent in Swedish.

It will be a part of your job to communicate with other departments, team members, projects leaders and suppliers. It is therefore important that you are open-minded and straightforward in your communication. Finally, you are a natural problem solver, who enjoys meeting new challenges.
