We are looking for a Director, Operational Control Europe & Global Operations
Position Description
We are looking for a Director, Operational Control Europe & Global Operations, Volvo Financial Services. The position is part of VFS Operational Control management team and is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Operational Control (OC) team supports Volvo Financial Services' (VFS) mission of being the "Best Captive in the Industry" by ensuring operational stability and excellence throughout the business. It provides independent and objective business reviews and assurance in functional areas like sales, credit, collections, finance and accounting, IT and regulatory compliance, and fraud, as well as advisory services including new market entries, systems enhancements, new products and services, business continuity plans, and training services to add value, reducing operational risks, and improve VFS operational performance.
There are two main components of the Director, Operational Control & Global Operations role.
One is to provide VFS management in all regions and HQ with comprehensive operational control, internal control, risk mitigation and assurance activities related to the European regions in order to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
Second is to provide functional expertise globally in assurance of VFS Operations in areas including but not limited to credit, operations, fraud, collections, asset management and remarketing, and wholesale inventory management.
Key Responsibilities
Assurance and monitoring activities
Overall responsibility for operational assurance for the European markets and global operations across functional areas in credit, operations, fraud, collections, asset management and remarketing, and wholesale inventory management
Seek ways to identify and mitigate key operational risks to the business
Champion use of automation in order to drive this goal
Drive best practices in key operational risk areas globally
Prepare various communication pitches and other material along with VP Operational Control
Work with other Volvo Group entities as requested - Group Finance for Enterprise Risk Management, Group IT for ITGC, Corporate Audit etc.
Develop or enhance, and roll out various training material - including VFS Internal Control Framework, fraud, self-assessments, etc.
Provide assurance to the management that operational and financial reporting controls are working in accordance with the VFS internal control framework
Prepare the VFS organization for regulatory compliance (in line with local central bank requirements)
Conduct Internal Control audit activities for regulatory compliance
Perform root cause analysis and provide management with detailed instructions as to how remediate deficiencies in the most effective manner
Conduct specific operational reviews for selected high-risk markets and/or areas of VFS operations
Develop or enhance, and roll out various training material - including VFS Internal Control Framework, fraud, self-assessments, etc.
Perform ad hoc activities requested by VFS Operational Control or other VFS functions Ongoing risk analysis of deficiencies identified
Monitoring of critical outstanding deficiencies; quantify the impact of deficiencies identified
Identify, measure and report on control deficiencies in the organization
Maintenance of the deficiency database and Issue deficiency reporting to the management
Advisory activities
Lead and manage operational / internal control advisory services to the region and local markets
Demonstrate leadership skills by providing on-the-job coaching and, at times, supervising the work of more junior team members.
Partner with global and region subject matter expert and local functional heads and/or other corporate control functions (e.g., Corporate Audit, Legal & Compliance) while conduct advisory services
Be a collaborative business partner and an independent challenge agent to ensure region and local decision-making process is risk informed and data based
Provide pragmatic solutions and implementation support focused on risk considerations across corporate cultures, enhanced governance in risk management, predictive risk analytics, improved risk management processes and controls
Deliver high-quality work products, provide advice and support regulatory readiness and adherence to applicable laws and regulations, and internal directives and procedures
Develop new advisory services and improve standardization of working templates and solutions offering to the region and local markets.
Education & Experience Requirements
University degree required
A minimum of 12 years of progressive work experience, particularly in operations, risk management, internal control, compliance and/or audit
High integrity and strong ethics
Comprehensive experience in managing people
Strong and broad operational knowledge of the equipment finance industry
Working experience in a similar or related role in the financial services industry (risk manager, operations manager, internal control manager, compliance manager, etc.)
Prefer to have one or more of the professional certifications (MBA, Masters in a quantitative field) or with equivalent experiences to be a subject matter expert in one of the professionals.
Good understanding of data and analytics
Experience working with IT - project implementation, IT governance etc.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to summarize information and technical issues in presentations or memos for senior management
A creative, analytical and practical approach to resolving issues, and able to work under pressure and multi-task
Result-oriented, self-motivated, detail-minded, able to work and manage projects independently and work as part of a team
Strong organizational, people, and team management skills to effectively navigate across all areas of the organization
An energetic and determined attitude.
