The IMED RIA (Innovative Medicine Respiratory Inflammation & Autoimmune) External Innovation department is an instrumental part of the IMED. It will have a direct impact on RIA output through effective partnerships and collaborations with external and internal stakeholders. It will have a major impact on the strategic development of the IMED RIA, ensuring that the current portfolio is delivered efficiently and that IMED RIA science and capabilities are fit for future challenges and opportunities
As Alliance Manager at External Innovation IMED RIA you will have a direct impact on the IMED RIA output through effective partnerships and collaborations. You will contribute to the strategic development of the IMED RIA, managing collaborations and identifying novel external scientific opportunities for progression through the deal flow process.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Support the Head of External Innovation and scientists in MED RIA in creating an entrepreneurial and externally facing IMED RIA, which enables an internally and externally collaborative culture with calculated risk taking.
• Evaluate and progress external in-licensing opportunities from academia, biotechs and peer-pharma.
• Lead scientific evaluation of assets and work closely with scientific experts, Scientific Partnering & Alliances (SP&A) and Business development (BD) through the deal flow process to completion. Ensure that the IMED is considered a partner of choice in its areas of interest.
• Provide scientific context to out-license assets to ensure value for terminated projects or set up innovative collaboration models to help deliver our projects with external support.
• Facilitate and manage collaborations of strategic interest to maintain a scientific edge. Partners with the best, independent of location and help build this using innovative models of funding. Act as conduit between external stakeholders and internal scientists and proactively log progress of agreed objectives.
• Support the head of External Innovation IMED RIA to enhance and sustain the scientific reputation and external visibility of the IMED.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues in SPA and GPPS, and across business to identify and exploit cross-business opportunities and embed best practice.
Essential Requirements
• PhD or MD and post-doc experience
• Entrepreneurial and innovation driven leadership abilities in a drug discovery environment with knowledge of pre-clinical R&D.
• Demonstrated deal making / collaborations expertise.
• Experience of building successful internal/external partnership and collaboration relationships, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and awareness.
• Experience in pharmaceutical R&D and drug discovery environments
• Experience and understanding of the Therapeutic Area and drug discovery process
• Understanding of payer, regulatory and commercial issues in the pharmaceutical industry
