Volvo Cars is on an exciting journey, redefining the automotive experience by innovating to make people's lives less complicated. We offer you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to make an impact in a company with unique opportunities to grow and make a true difference.
What do we offer
Volvo Cars Safety Centre is an analysis and competence centre within Volvo Cars that drives the development of Volvo Cars' core value Safety. We cover the areas of passive and active safety and have state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. The Safety Centre is responsible for the strategical safety work and development of safety requirements, traffic accident research and safety analysis within both testing and virtual development. The development is performed in close collaboration with both our internal design departments and external suppliers in a dynamic and international environment.
Your key tasks
The CAE-engineer role will focus on active safety systems and functions. A key element will be to run simulations of real accidents based on information from field data (e.g. pre-crash data), empirical analysis of mechanisms. Virtual development, testing, and verification of active safety and automated driving systems on real crash and pre-crash data are essential to increase precision in development, to decrease lead time in projects and to reach Volvo Cars' Safety Vision; No one should be severely injured or die in a new Volvo vehicle from year 2020. To get a detailed understanding of the pre-crash phase is essential because active safety and automated driving systems act to avoid crashes within this phase.
Daily tasks and responsibilities:
* To integrate Simulink models into our simulation environment of the vehicle, Active Safety functions and the driver's behaviour so that they can be applied in simulations for evaluation, verification and tuning of active safety systems
* Perform experimental and virtual simulations of real world scenarios with respect to crash avoidance and crash mitigation performance and you will analyse the results
* Be responsible for the method development and the virtual simulations within our research projects.
* Participate in method development and requirement setting. Regular contact with engineers from the product development departments
You and your skills
As an applicant you should hold an MSc degree in Signal and systems, Control & Mechatronics, Applied mechanics or similar. Experience of MBSE/CAE-tools such as PreScan, CarMaker, Simulink, Matlab etc. Be fluent in English (written and spoken) and hold a driving license.
Experience:
* Matlab, Simulink, Python
* Vehicle Dynamics, multibody mechanics
* Statistical analysis, optimization
* Control algorithm development, mechatronics
On a personal level
As a person you are analytical, structured, like problem solving with a strong personal drive. You should also have a visionary mind-set, be positive and open-minded since you will be working in an environment where CAE tools and processes are under continuous development.
