The department of Mathematical Sciences is a joint department between University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology located at the Chalmers campus Johanneberg. We conduct internationally successful research in a number of areas in theoretical and applied mathematics, and mathematical statistics. The department is an important partner of other sciences and industrial projects.

The announced postdoctoral positions are located at the Division of Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, with several research groups in the area of biomathematics/systems biology. Gothenburg offers vibrant systems biology environment with many excellent research groups actively collaborating and organizing number of life science seminars, systems biology summer schools and workshops.

The postdoctoral fellows are supervised by Associate Professor Marija Cvijovic and funded by a grant from the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.

Subject area
Systems Biology

Subject area description
The research project is performed in an international and highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment. We study the complexity of cellular ageing using experimental and computational methods. The work is highly interdisciplinary with close collaboration with a number experimental research groups in other areas.

Job assignments
Metabolism is the final fingerprint of functionality and has been implicated in multiple theories of aging. Despite numbers of studies, much remains to be understood about how metabolites change during the course of ageing. Thesuccessful candidates will contribute to our efforts to integrate and interrogate high-throughput dataof aging cells on single and population level to understand age-related changes in metabolism and to map metabolic alterations during ageing to age-related syndromes and diseases. The candidates are expected to independently develop new ideas and drive collaborations.

The candidates will be involved in supervision of bachelor and master projects and, to some extent, PhD students.

Eligibility
The successful candidates should have a PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biophysics, Computer Science or a degree in biological science with demonstrated experience in computational and statistical development. The PhD degree must be completed by the time of application. The degree should generally not be older than three years at the time of the application.

The candidates should have good knowledge of one or more programming languages such as Perl/Python/Java/C/C++ and skills in R or Matlab/Mathematica. Experience with high-throughput data (metabolomics, gene expression microarrays and/or sequencing) and pathway analyses would be a distinct advantage.

The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
