erik.alden@epiroc.comEducation background: Hydraulics, mechatronics
Level of thesis project: Master thesis
Number of students in the project: 1 or 2 students
Target:
This project is to practically evaluate a new concept of a programmable Digital Displacement Pump in a Battery Electrtic Scooptram application. The outcome will be used as a decision basis for if this new pump concept will be beneficial to implement into our Load Haul Dump applications.
Background:
A continues demand for more productive, efficient and low to zero emission underground rock excavation machines requires a constant evaluation of new technologies and components. New types of programmable energy efficient hydraulic pumps is available on the market. These pumps can be setup and adjusted by software algorithms, this may have the possibility to improve both the machine efficiency and performance. Previous studies have been done in this specific area, which theoretically shows a great potential in energy savings.
Mission:
MissionYour mission in this project will be to evaluate this digital displacement pump in a specific Battery Electric Scooptram application. The evaluation shall be made booth form an R&D perspective and a functional and performance perspective. The pump performance will be evaluated by doing real tests on an existing Battery Electric Scooptram. The target is to significant reduce the losses especially at part load and improve the performance in flow and pressure response.
* Learn how to control the DDP in a Scooptram application.
* Evaluate energy consumption for hydraulics in a Battery Electric
Scooptram with 2x digital displacement radial piston pumps [DDP].
* Compare energy consumption with the baseline, who is, 2x In-line piston pumps.
* Evaluate performance in flow/pressure build up.
* Map pump pulsations, also for low numbers of pistons active in each group.
Qualification:
We are looking for one or two master theses students within the area of hydraulics and mechatronics with a high interest of functional development and basic understanding of programming.
