As a Senior Research Scientist you will deliver strategic scientific input to all aspects of product development, regulatory, and promotion across the entire product lifecycle. The majority of time will be devoted to Phase III and Life Cycle Management project related clinical research activities including clinical activities in support of regulatory approval and market access. Depending on project a substantial part of the time could be devoted to planning and execution of mechanistic studies with the aim to improve the understanding of a drug's mode of action.

The job will also include the responsibility for ensuring that the appropriate functional experts whose input is needed to support these projects get involved as needed and the coordination of these activities in support of clinical programs and projects. The objectives will be set by the manager in agreement with the Global Clinical Lead (GCL) for the compound in question.

Major Responsibilities

* Responsible for medical components of the design, execution, and reporting of study protocols as well as (in collaboration with other team members) labelling and regulatory communications under direction of GCL
* Ensures that study design is scientifically robust, suitable to test the trial's hypothesis, and likely to meet the objectives
* Achieves high quality scientific interpretation of data generated from executed studies
* Supports and, as delegated by the GCL, represents AstraZeneca in interactions with key customers (i.e., internal stakeholders, key opinion leaders, regulators, payers, prescribers, patients)
* Work with international colleagues and with external Alliance partners on research initiatives and regulatory issues
* Applies strategic intent of AstraZeneca when working with Alliance partners, FDA, payers, opinion leaders, prescribers and consumers of AstraZeneca products
* Provide guidance for Phase IV and investigator initiated trials in cooperation with regional marketing companies
* Assumes other duties as assigned by your manager

Requirements - essential

* Scientific doctoral level degree (e.g. PhD or PharmD) or equivalent
* Fluent in English
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional setting
* Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with internal senior leaders and external key opinion leaders

Requirements - desirable

* Demonstrated leadership experience and expertise in academia and/or the pharmaceutical industry
* Understanding of scientific issues related to the design and implementation of clinical trials and interpreting trial results
* Ability to travel nationally and internationally
* Experience from registry studies, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence/machine learning or block chain activities
