The Faculty of Technology offers a broad spectrum of activities across nine different departments and is central to the technical education and research conducted at Linnaeus University. The Department of Forest and Wood Technology offers wide-ranging thematic activities from the forest seedling to the finished wood product. Benefits for the climate arising from forests lie at the centre of all department activities. Based on this theme, the department meets societal challenges whilst contributing to two of the Linnaeus Knowledge Environments: Green sustainable development and Advanced materials.



This lectureship position is funded through and part of a long-term collaboration among Södra (Sweden's largest forest-owner industry group), IKEA and Linnaeus University, the objective of which is to develop and enhance competence, knowledge and education. The collaboration, based on innovation and proximity, brings with it a creative and dynamic exchange of knowledge and skills between academia and participating industries for the clear benefit of businesses, owners, customers, researchers/teachers, students and society. Our vision is to set knowledge in motion and develop high-quality research and study programmes for a student-centred sustainable social development.

Job description:

Key areas of focus for this position include to what extent forestry has impact on the biodiversity, benefits for climate and the water quality of forests, and how nature conservation can be developed in an ecologically and economically efficient way. Forests also play an important role in terms of outdoor pursuits and recreational interests, physical and mental wellbeing, and the supply of forest resources to the timber industry and society. Working as a Senior Lecturer includes being responsible for teaching and supervising degree projects and doctoral students, and as the position involves project management and research, the successful applicant will also be required to write scientific articles.



Teaching and research activities are planned and incorporated into the work based on the applicant's level of competence. Teaching is through distance learning in addition to excursions and campus-based practical meetings and lectures. Currently available courses in Forest and Wood Technology attract a large number of student applications. Hence, the position of Senior Lecturer plays an important role in the Master's Degree in Forest and Wood Engineering and also adds to the competence of the teaching team as a whole.



The position involves fostering contacts and collaborations with other research institutions and industries and further developing national and international networks. In addition, the work involves actively participating in and contributing to the internal and external work of the department as well as supporting gender-equality and securing external research funding.



It is also important for teachers and lecturers at Linnaeus University to keep abreast of developments within their own specialist subject and any other societal developments that may be of importance to their work at the University. Eligibility requirements

Those qualified for appointment as a lecturer are those who, on the one hand, have displayed educational ability and, on the other hand, hold a doctorate or possess corresponding scientific ability with regards to the subject content and work tasks pertaining to the appointment.



In accordance with Linnaeus University Appointment Procedures, pedagogical competence is deemed to embrace the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, supervision and examination.



In addition to the eligibility requirements specified above, the applicant must fulfil the following criteria:



The applicant shall have the professional status of or the same academic competence as Senior Lecturer (to be assessed in conjunction with appointment) in a subject of relevance to Forest Management.



The applicant shall have published scientific papers on subjects relating to the position advertised.



The applicant shall have experience of interacting and collaborating with external and industrial partners.



Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria valid for the appointment of a Senior Lecturer are the level of competence and eligibility required to qualify for the employment. The pedagogical competence of the applicant is given as much consideration as her/his scientific expertise, experience and ability to collaborate.



Other merits and favourably viewed qualifications include:



Knowledge of Swedish is deemed an additional merit and applicants who, at the time of their employment, are not able to teach in the Swedish language will be expected to do so within a period of two years.



Research and educational experience of Nordic forests and forestry.



Documented ability to obtain external research grants.



Experience of managing research projects and supervising Ph.D. students.



Documented experience of outdoor teaching and knowledge of distance learning using Learning Management Systems and other ICT tools.
