Department of Molecular Sciences
The Department of Molecular Sciences currently consists of approximately 90 employees and, together with three other departments, forms an inspiring research environment at the Biocentrum on Ultuna Campus, Uppsala.
Research at the department revolves around various chemical and biological processes of importance for the transition towards a sustainable society, often in collaboration with industrial partners. The department has a well-developed infrastructure for cultivation and characterization of anaerobic microorganisms and processes, such as anaerobic glovebox, various types of bioreactors (lab-scale) and instruments for compositional analysis of gases and liquids (GC, HPLC, NMR, MS, etc.). The national platform SciLifeLab provides access to advanced infrastructure for sequence analysis and bioinformatics. SLU also has its own infrastructure for support and education in bioinformatics.
The department offers education in the subjects of chemistry, food science and microbiology at both undergraduate and advanced levels in educational programs that lead to, among others, agronomist, bachelor's and master's degrees. The environment at the department encourages research collaborations with other departments at SLU, nationally and internationally. The position provides access to an attractive research environment with unique breadth and thus the opportunity for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations with research groups in other disciplines such as engineering and social sciences.
