About the role
As Senior Eurasia Program Officer your mission is to work together with human rights defenders to actively strive for setting pressure to duty bearers and States to take responsibility for the fulfilment of human rights in the Eurasia region.
You will be responsible for supervising the programmatic work in the Eurasia Department, including political developments in the region, civil society priorities and direct supervisory for the work of Programme Officers and Programme Assistants/Administrators.
As Senior Programme Officer you are also actively involved in supporting the Department Director in building a sustainable department and programme to meet Civil Rights Defenders main outcomes.
As Senior Eurasia Programme Officer you report directly to the Eurasia Department Director.
The role offers great variety, including work tasks such as:
• Carry out and follow up on the programme and long- term partnerships with human rights organisations in the Region/Country/Countries assigned to the role
• Implement and follow Grant Management routines
• Monitor and evaluate assigned programmes
• Work closely with the Department Director on developing the regional strategy and plan of action
• Monitor and provide analysis on the human rights situation in the EURASIA region
• Supervise and mentor assigned staff through guidance and advice on work related matters, to ensure productivity and work quality
• Provide feedback and follow up on performance
• Provide the management with draft editorials and supportive documents for debates, etc, and write articles, appeals and statements for our website and media
• Establish and maintain contacts with relevant decision makers
• Identify fundraising opportunities, write concepts notes and applications for funding
• Frequent travel to the region
• Other duties that are broadly in line with the above responsibilities
About you
As a person you communicate clearly and ensure that messages are reached and that expectations are clear to all parties involved. You also have well-founded and clear values and are guided by these in crucial situations at work.
You prefer to set high goals for yourself as well as for the organisation and tend to work hard to achieve them. Both by collaborating with others in a responsive and smooth way but also by leading, motivating, and providing others with the powers required to effectively reach common goals.

To be suitable for this position you have:
• A Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations or similar, including education on international human rights mechanisms
• At least 5 years of relevant working experience within human rights
• At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory role, including direct staff supervision
• Working experience from the region and extensive knowledge of the human rights situation in the Eurasia region
• Documented experience of NGO-work or work in development/human rights institutions, project management and advocacy work
• Strong reporting skills
• Ability to use the English and Russian language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes and to produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects
• Strong IT skills, including good knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel, PPT, Word)
About the employment
This is a full-time permanent employment with 6 months probationary employment, starting in January 2022 or as soon as possible.
