SEI is recruiting a mid or senior-level Associate / Project Lead to join our growing team and work towards just, equitable and sustainable transitions away from fossil fuels.
Location: UK, Sweden, or US (European working hours preferred)

The role
The Associate / Project Lead will play a key role in managing the ground-breaking Production Gap Report series, helping to lead new, innovative research and coordinating with partners across the world. They will also contribute to and help to expand the frontiers of SEI's work on advancing decarbonization, avoiding carbon lock-in, and reducing inequalities.
The successful candidate will be based at one of SEI's Oxford UK, Stockholm (HQ), Sweden, or US (Boston or Seattle) offices, and may be able to continue working from their current location until pandemic restrictions are eased. They will work in close coordination with colleagues across the SEI offices. Since this position will involve collaboration with partners in Europe, Africa, and Asia, ability to work in European time zones is essential.
Key duties and responsibilities
Contribute to SEI's portfolio of research and engagement work on just transitions away from fossil fuels and other areas of climate and energy policy
Coordinate and manage projects, draft reports and briefs, fundraise, and build networks, internal capacity and team building, and.
Play a key role in the ongoing design, coordination, and management of the Production Gap Report
Contribute to ongoing SEI initiatives, including SEI's Initiative on Carbon Lock-in and our ongoing efforts on policy engagement

Who you are
We are looking for a talented networker, manager, and writer with a passion for working on climate change and reducing inequality in a non-profit research setting.
You should have familiarity with, or a strong curiosity in, national and international climate policy; national and international energy policy, resource management, just transitions, and international development. You should have experience working on, coordinating, and managing complex projects with multiple partners and audiences.
We are open to recruiting at either the mid or senior levels, with the understanding that the senior candidate would have greater responsibilities and expectations, e.g. regarding mentorship, leadership, and fundraising.
Required qualifications and experience
An advanced degree in a related field.
Significant proven expertise in climate and energy policy, sustainable development, and/or related fields.
Demonstrated project coordination and management capabilities.
Proven success developing relationships with a range of partners, such as research institutes, governments, UN, and nonprofit organizations.
The ability to clearly communicate research and analysis, orally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences.
Collegiality and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external colleagues.
Personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and the ability to manage time, priorities, and resources effectively.

Desirable skills and experience
Track record of using research to influence policy and practice, including demonstrable interest in and ability to convene and engage stakeholders and to facilitate policy dialogues.
Expertise in energy governance, international relations, or geopolitics.
Experience working in developing countries, especially those with relatively high reliance on fossil fuel production for economic activity.
Prior experience working with government and industry stakeholders on energy transitions.
