hela Sverige The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is seeking a Researcher to strengthen SIPRI's work on security-related issues in Outer Space.
Context
SIPRI is an independent international institute whose core mission is to undertake research and activities on security, conflict and peace. Established in 1966, SIPRI provides data, analysis and recommendations, based on open sources, to policymakers, researchers, media and the interested public. SIPRI seeks to strengthen its capacity on outer space issues. These will include but not be limited to space security, counterspace capabilities, confidence-building measures and international law.
Main tasks
The Researcher will be responsible for conducting and disseminating high-quality research; helping to secure and implement externally-funded projects; developing and expanding SIPRI's activities on Outer Space issues; mentoring junior staff; networking with relevant policy actors and the wider research community; and supporting other aspects of the cluster's core work.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have:
• A university degree or degrees, in disciplines and topics relevant to this post. A background in international law is particularly desirable.
• Fluency in English is a requirement. Knowledge of other major languages is desirable.
• Capacity to design and implement interdisciplinary research projects;
• Documented expertise on both academic and policy debates around Outer Space issues;
• A talent for communication; and
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to manage time effectively.
Desirable experience and skills
• Experience as a researcher initiating and carrying out her/his own research projects;
• A record of publications that is commensurate with the length of time worked in research;
• An excellent broad knowledge of issues relating to Outer Space;
• An academic or professional background in international peace and security issues; and
• A well-developed professional network and proven ability for collaboration, networking and partnerships
Contract period
Starting 15 August 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter, the contract period will initially last for 2 years, with the option for an extension. The post is full-time. Subject to any restrictions on travel related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the post requires that the candidate becomes a resident in Stockholm, Sweden when employment starts. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
