Research Engineer in Neurodegeneration
at Umeå Centre for Molecular Medicine (UCMM). UCMM is an interdisciplinary research centre using basic research approaches to study areas of biological and medical relevance. See
www.ucmm.umu.se.The position is for one year with the possibility for extension. Admission as soon as possible after agreement.
Neurodegenerative diseases impose a major social and financial burden on our society and their incidence is increasing. Our research is aimed at understanding the basic mechanisms that underlie common forms of neurodegeneration, such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. We attempt to use this knowledge to devise novel ways of treating the diseases with the hope of slowing their progression. See
www.ucmm.umu.se/research/jonathan/index.htmlThe successful applicant will be responsible for establishing and analyzing disease models using transgenic and knockout mouse lines. They will need to take care of the day to day running of research activities within the lab and participate in the supervision and training of junior staff members etc. The ideal candidate will have obtained a Ph.D. and completed several years of postdoctoral training in the field of Neuroscience or Biomedicine. A thorough theoretical and practical grounding in molecular and cell biology is warranted. Experience in generating and maintaining transgenic mouse colonies is required. The applicant should be proficient in written and spoken English and have good organizational, record keeping and problem solving skills.
