The primary responsibility of the post holder will to be support the delivery of two new policy-centered initiatives on the topics of human security and development cooperation.
The Role
The Major Initiatives team leads a variety of cross cutting projects within SIPRI, all of which have a strong policy focus. The team will be kicking off two new projects in the autumn focused on the topics of human security and development cooperation. This new Project/Research Assistant will work on both projects and split their time between research tasks, event organisation and stakeholder engagement and coordination/project administration.
The role will involve
• providing research assistance to a variety of researchers. Tasks would include background research and literature reviews, supporting researchers with interviews, coding of qualitative data sets and drafting policy briefs.
• organizing a series of research related events and dialogues together with SIPRI's outreach team. The post holder will both be involved in developing the content and supporting the practical delivery of these events.
• project coordination and administrative support. This would include internal project communication and coordination meetings, keeping project plans up to date and liaison with SIPRI operations team.
• keeping abreast of policy discussions that may be relevant to the content or outreach of the two projects.
The Project/Research Assistant may also be involved in the delivery of the Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development 2026.
Requirements
The successful candidate should have the following experience:
• A minimum of a university degree-preferably at the Master's level-in peace and conflict studies, political science, international relations or a related field;
• 1-2 years of professional experience;
• Experience in undertaking research within the field of human security and/or development cooperation;
• Experience of project assistance and coordination tasks;
• Familiarity with the development cooperation policy landscape, especially within northern Europe and the Nordics;
• Experience working with stakeholders and/or organizing events
• Ability to work and deliver high quality work in a small team and to tight deadline
• Fluency in oral and written English, knowledge of French, German or Swedish would be an advantage.
Knowledge of qualitative research methods would be an advantage.
The contract period is initially for 15 months, with possibility of extension. The post is full-time and based in Stockholm. The salary package will be negotiated individually. The start for the position is as soon as possible.
