Are you interested in an inspiring opportunity within the Oral Product Development division in one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies? Do you have knowledge in the area of pharmaceutical technology and want to drive drug development projects forward? If so, this could be your next challenge!

At AstraZeneca, we put patients first and strive to meet their unmet needs worldwide. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality. If you are swift to action, confident to lead, willing to collaborate, and curious about what science can do, then you're our kind of person.

We are now looking to hire two Product and Process Design Engineers (Formulators), (Senior Scientist or Scientist, depending you your background), to join our site in Gothenburg! This is an outstanding opportunity for two enthusiastic, innovative and motivated Formulators to be part of our product development teams!

Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines. We provide expert technical support to all AZ's clinical and commercial drug products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients.

In Oral Product Development, a division of Pharmaceutical Technology and Development, we focus on the design and development of commercial products and processes, contribute to new product introductions and continuous improvement of launched products. Products in scope are e.g. immediate and controlled release solid oral dosage forms of small and large molecules for diverse therapeutic areas. To meet the future needs of our portfolio the introduction of new technology and science is an important factor, and modeling and simulation is a part of our daily work.

What you'll do?
As a Product and Process Design Engineer (Formulator) you will be a member of a cross-skilled team of scientists. Together you will work to design, develop and deliver high quality clinical and commercial formulations and processes, by using your understanding of existing and new innovative technologies.

• Be part of cross-functional teams delivering drug projects, including contributions to regulatory documentation and submissions, applying your understanding of drug development and relevant requirements from medical authorities
• Take part in technology transfer of manufacturing methods to other sites (within and/or outside AZ) and give consultation to internal and external parties
• Manage your own work to achieve drug development and improvement project targets, in a timely fashion and to agreed quality standards, by applying technical knowledge and expertise as well as interpreting results and adapting investigations as appropriate
• Participate in scientific and/or technology networks to increase base-line knowledge and create awareness of new developments in relevant areas
• Take responsibility for common laboratory equipment and facilities

Required Skills
• MSc and/or PhD in chemical engineering, pharmacy or similar discipline. Ideally with specialism in an area relevant to product development
• Knowledge and understanding of the science behind drug delivery, product design and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
• Ability to document and present your work
• A rational approach to problem solving and an ability to make judgements based on sound reasoning
• Strong collaboration and communication skills

Desired Skills
• Experience of development of pharmaceutical formulations and commercial manufacturing processes
• Experience of writing regulatory submissions
• A broad knowledge of pharmaceutical process equipment and technologies used for manufacturing of solid oral dosage forms, including methods for experimental characterization
• Experience and track record in using multi-variate analysis and chemometrics
• Knowledge and experience of GMP operational requirements
