The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. Division
One of the major focuses of the research group is on epidemiology and etiology of upper gastrointestinal cancers.

The group has several finished and ongoing epidemiological studies in which questionnaire data and biosamples were/are collected. The group has also a molecular epidemiology laboratory with a focus on microbiome and health, as well as tumor mutation profiling.

Duties
The postdoctoral researcher will be mainly involved in a project supported by European Research Council Consolidator Grant, with a focus on stomach cancer etiology and prevention.

The successful candidate will be expected to design and carry out experiments as directed, record and analyze the data critically, prepare manuscripts for publication, report the work at the scientific meetings, organize and participate in group meetings, undertake a limited amount of teaching and supervise students.

The candidate will be expected to perform the groundwork for their own career development by applying for grants and Fellowship awards.

Entry requirements
The candidate is expected to have a PhD degree on biomedicine, with experiences in molecular biology and/or molecular epidemiology. A working experience in the field of metagenomics and/or tumor mutation profiling is a plus.

Oral and written communication skills in English are required.

The applicant should be collegial, and be able to work well in a cross-disciplinary team as well as having the ability to work independently.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence.

The employment will be for 2 years, with a possibility to extension after evaluation.
