The Department of Biosystems and Technology is teaching and doing research within several themes of agricultural and horticultural sciences. The subject area of cropping systems ecology is developing the knowledge on the interaction of cultivated crops with each other, cultivation methods and the surrounding environment, including farmer and societal values. Research and teaching aim at improving the sustainability of cropping systems for production of food and feed within conventional and organic agriculture. The activities of the subject area combine strategic and applied research in collaboration with the agricultural sector.
Duties:
The post doc will do research within EU projects on cropping systems diversification, which aims at improving the scientific base and innovation regarding diversification based on crop rotation, intercropping of different species or/and multiple cropping e.g. cover cropping. The aim of the research is to stimulate ecological intensification, the use and supply of ecosystems services while reducing external inputs and enhance the resilience of cropping systems. The post doc will carry out field experiments, collecting and analysing data from experiments to evaluate the impact of diversified arable crops and cropping systems. Parts of the research tasks will be performed in collaboration with Swedish farmers.
Qualifications:
We will employ a candidate with a PhD within agricultural sciences (agronomy), agroecology or biology with documented research experience within cropping systems research. A postdoctoral position is a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, intended primarily for those who have obtained a doctorate within the past three years. Experience with data handling and analysis of intercrop experiments is a merit. Experience from research in an interdisciplinary context or/and system research, and/or participatory action and learning research are merits. Good qualifications in English speaking and writing are basic requirements.
