The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology for different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total approximately some 250 staff. Description of the Department and Program
The Strategic Research Program in Epidemiology invites applications to do research in one of the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe. Unique data resources, including ongoing cohort and case-control studies with biological materials, are available. The department also hosts a molecular biology laboratory dedicated to the study of the microbiome and human health. 

The Strategic Research Program in Epidemiology has three themes: Human Interactions with Microorganisms; Molecular, Genetic and Clinical Epidemiology; Lifespan approach to Health and Disease, and includes scientists from throughout the Karolinska Institutet. The first theme is most relevant to this announcement.

Area of responsibilities/description of the work
We want to recruit a computational biologist/bioinformatician preferentially with a strong interest and/or background in microbiology to take charge of analyzing a wealth of data emanating from recently developed research programs on human microbiome and health.

Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD degree in computational biology or bioinformatics, or considerable experience in these areas. The applicant should be skilled in metagenomics and have ample experience in analyzing data from next generation sequencing.

The appointment will be for 2 years, with a possible extension after evaluation.
