Beskrivning av verksamheten
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. The Institute is composed of the following five departments: The Department of Infectious Diseases The Department of Microbiology and Immunology The Department of Pathology and Genetics The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.

Dina arbetsuppgifter
The overall aim of the project is to increase our understanding of the molecular basis of the upstream/downstream targets of Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) receptor tyrosine kinase. The postdoctoral fellow will be engaged in projects focused on mechanisms that regulate initiation, growth and survival ALK positive neuroblastom and their microenvironment. The fellow will use a broad range of approaches, such as genetics, cell biology and in vivo modeling to understand/reveal upstream/downstream targets of ALK both during novel developmental processes and disease. The fellow will be involved in mouse and cell culture models of ALK positive neuroblastoma to validate novel therapeutic strategies. Signaling pathways will be further investigated in these models with consideration of their pathological relevance.

Utbildning och erfarenhet
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. A high level of English communication and writing skills are an important requirement. The candidate is expected to be active in designing and implementing their projects, and also to collaborate closely with other members of the team. Methods employed require knowledge in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and histology. Knowledge of ALK is an advantage. Knowledge of mouse or Drosophila models as well as experience working with cell culture systems is a requirement. Laboratory knowledge and documented training regarding handling/working with mice or Drosophila is a requirement. Drug treatment and screening, live imaging, knowledge of ultra sound imaging, MRI, biochemical assays, and cell culture model systems are an advantage. Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
