SciLifeLab (SciLifeLab) is a national center for molecular biosciences with a focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a national resource hosted by Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. The center also collaborates with several other universities.
The employment will be placed at the Department of biochemistry and biophysics, at Stockholm university.
Project description
A fully funded postodoctoral position is available at the Computational Microscopy for Cell Biology (CMCB) lab, led by Juliette Griffie (www.scilifelab.se/researchers/juliette-griffie), based at SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se), campus Solna (Stockholm). The successful candidate will be investigating immune cells, particularly T-cells, activation and interactions with fluorescence microscopy to better understand autoimmunity. The research scope is highly multidisciplinary, relying on cutting edge imaging techniques and analysis tools to address fundamental biological issues.
This will translate into projects ranging from using super resolution microscopy to investigate the drivers of autoimmune diseases at the nanoscale, live-cell imaging to improve our understanding of immune cells' interactions, to the design of biological frameworks for smart microscopy applications.
Main responsibilities
The position involves taking an active part in CMCB lab's daily research, with a particular focus on using super resolution microscopy to investigate T-cell activation and autoimmunity. The successful candidate will perform a range of biochemistry, imaging and cutting-edge machine learning analysis methods developped at CMCB, building up on their clear understanding of the underlying biological issue. Both live-cell and fixed cell imaging are of interest to this project, and the candidate will be exepected to design and optimize novel protocols enabling to image T-cell activation and interaction with advanced light microscopy.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria
The degree must have been completed at latest before the employment decision is made, but no more than three years before the closing date. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances. Special reasons refer to sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills in immunology as well as fluorescence microscopy sample preparation. The candidate is expected to have solid experience with T-cell isolation and culture, in vitro immuno labelling as well as tranfection and fluorescence microscopy. Experience with super resolution microscopy is a plus.
Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a minimum of two years and a maximum of three years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date 2023-06-01 or as per agreement.
