The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Linnaeus University is seeking applicants for a position as Post-doctoral Fellow in Heritage Futures.
Field of subject for the position: Cultural Heritage Studies
Placement: Kalmar
Extent and period: 2 years fixed-term full time, with start 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Context of position:
Since 2017, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities provides the academic setting for the UNESCO Chair on Heritage Futures. The Chair comprises the chairholder (Holtorf), another professor (Högberg), two affiliated researchers (May and Pescatore), a PhD student and an Assistant. Most of us are archaeologists by training.
The UNESCO Chair promotes future-thinking in the heritage sector. Among the tasks of the Chair are international collaborations with UNESCO and others, the development of training courses for professionals responsible for heritage, and academic research on heritage futures. Heritage futures are concerned with the roles of heritage in managing the relations between present and future societies, e.g. through anticipation or planning.
Duties:
The duties of the fellow to be appointed consist mainly of research in the field of heritage futures. The research is expected to have an international outlook and a clear future orientation. Expected research results should be relevant to practices of managing heritage in society, and they may be linked to the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to participate actively in the Chair's activities both at Linnaeus University and elsewhere in Sweden and abroad. Up to 20 % of the work can include course development and teaching at any academic level or in the context of professional development, writing of relevant research applications and policy briefs, and qualified research management.
Essential requirements:
The position is open for applications by anybody who holds a PhD degree, or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD, in any discipline contributing to the transdisciplinary field of Cultural Heritage Studies and who has completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline (parental leave or leave related to illness etc. can extend this 3 year-period). Applicants must not previously have been employed as a post-doctoral fellow for more than a year in the same or a related subject area at Linnaeus University. Fluency in English, including speaking and writing, is required (a working knowledge of Swedish may be acquired during the employment). Another requirement are the abilities to communicate research results to various audiences and to work in a team.
Assessment criteria:
Applicants who meet the essential requirements will be evaluated regarding their suitability for the position on the basis of their cover letter, a research plan and a CV. The cover letter should describe the applicant's relevant interests, experience and skills as well as the specific motivation for applying to the present position in the field of heritage futures. A Research Plan of up to 3 pages must contain a specific agenda for research to be conducted during the Fellowship, including a discussion of its relevance to heritage futures and a plan for the dissemination of research results and sharing knowledge with practitioners.
The CV, including a list of publications, must not exceed 5 pages.
Short-listed candidates may be called for interview.
In the overall assessment of skills importance is given to an assessment of the applicant's potential for a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
