Post-doc position in systems biology
(2 years) at Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC) and Computational Life Science Cluster (CLiC)
Systems biology approaches to model the regulatory network in living organism needs to account for regulatory sequence information and expression profiles of genes, but also the quantity of the regulated proteins and their interaction with each other and other molecules such as metabolites. At UPSC and CLiC, we aim at understanding this complexity in Aspen trees by combining data from transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics platforms. In addition, next-generation sequencing data of both DNA and mRNA will be available within the next year, and will contribute higher quality mRNA quantification and offer the possibility to study splice variants and microRNA regulation. The goal of the project is to develop models that create synergy from integrating data from more than one platform, and that result in new understanding of complex and important processes in trees such as growth and development. Such understanding is crucial since trees represent a major source of renewable energy, and understanding of growth and development is key to deliver higher productivity in the future.
A post-doctoral position in systems biology is now available within this frame of research. The Computational Life Science Cluster (CLiC) is a recent initiative to co-locate bioinformaticians in Umeå to great a strong research environment for computational biology. The successful applicant will thus work in an interdisciplinary environment where bioinformaticians and experimental biologist collaborate to answer important biological questions. The successful applicant will develop methods and tools for inferring network models, and will participate in developing infrastructure for combined profiling.
