The overall aim of the PhD-project is to investigate how an electrified industry can contribute with flexibility and system services to the electricity system. In order to move away from fossil-fuels many industries plan for direct or indirect electrification. The demand for electricity from industry challenges the electricity system by introducing large new loads, both at present and at new locations. However, electrification of industry may also offer flexibility and system services to the electricity grid. In this project, the impact of industry electrification on the electricity system is investigated with a particular emphasis on evaluating how decisions such as location, choice of electrification technology and sizing of industrial units impact the interaction between industry and the electricity system.
The successful candidate will work in the North European Power Perspectives project which involves a large number of experienced researchers and experts and therefore offer good opportunties to interact with energy utilities and policy makers. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish TSO Svenska Kraftnät.
Information about the division and the department
The PhD position is at the department of Space, Earth and Environment in close collaboration with in close collaboration with the department of Electrical Engineering.
