1 PhD student in the research education subject: Aquatic ecology
Revisiting the importance of headwater streams, environmental relationships and stream connectivity: exploring the riverscape for biodiversity
Applications are encouraged for a 4 year PhD position focusing on the biodiversity of stream and river networks. The main aim of the project is to investigate the low order headwater streams that make up the largest part of the running water network but despite their quantitative importance are the least studied in terms of their faunal or floral biodiversity. The project aims at screening biodiversity from the headwater streams down to the catchment outlet as well as biodiversity patterns among headwater streams. The PhD student’s research will seek to quantify the relationship between low order stream biodiversity and variables such as land-use and water chemistry across the landscape. Special focus will be on possible discontinuities in the landscape and how these might affect faunal biodiversity patterns and relationships.
Qualifications: We seek for a dedicated candidate with a degree in aquatic or landscape ecology or other relevant subjects. Good knowledge of stream ecology, landscape ecology and/or identification skills of stream biota (macroinvertebrates, diatoms, fish or macrophytes) is meriting. Projected studies include both the analyses of large-scale datasets and experimental field work.
Form for funding or employment: 1st year grant (utbildningsbidrag) and 20% employment, 2nd–4th year full employment (doktorandtjänst)
