Our PhD Program: The PhD Program will provide you with a unique opportunity to develop within the automotive industry. We offer you a position, where you will do in depth-studies within a scientific area of strategic importance for Volvo Car Corporation. As a PhD candidate in the program you will be assigned both an academic and an industrial supervisor. Furthermore you will be part of a network with PhD candidates in related scientific areas. After graduation you will be assigned a position within the area.
We are now looking for a PhD candidate within Semi-Autonomus driving and its effect on Mode awareness and User experience (SAMU).
Scope: Towards the development of autonomous driving (AD), semi-autonomous driving modes will have an increasing importance. Performance of these systems will improve and frequency of use will most likely increase. The purpose with this project is to create new knowledge in order to understand how future advanced semi-autonomous systems shall be designed in order to create correct level of user trust through mode awareness. Also while maintaining highest possible level of safety and user experience. This project will be managed by a research group consisting of senior researchers and industrial PhD candidates.
Organizational belonging: At the Digital User Experience attribute group we set the bar for what a car user experience can be. The group is a part of the Vehicle Engineering Unit, which is responsible for all attributes, securing that the users of our cars and services will have the desired user experience. On a high level we create the long term strategies, develop the test methods, translate the customer needs into requirements and verify the products during the development phase. The academic part of this FFI financed project is Department of Industrial and Material Science at Chalmers University of Technology.
Formal qualifications and personal qualities:
* MSc University degree in, Engineering or Cognitive Science, or equivalent.
* Knowledge of in human-centric design approaches and best practices.
* In-depth understanding and interest in interaction design and user experience.
* Excellent English skills, verbally and in writing. Swedish skills are favorable.
* Strong analytical skills.
* Good listening and communication skills.
* Strong drive for results and ability to act independently and to take the initiative.
* Ability to cooperate and work within a team.
* An interest and ability to lead individuals and groups.
* Driver 's license (category B).
Since Volvo Cars operates globally, it is meritorious if you have experience from multiple cultures.
