Designing heterogeneous system with hardware accelerators is a promising solution for mission critical applications (e.g. autonomous driving vehicles, data processing on satellites and industrial applications) where conventional rule-based algorithms are inefficient in terms of performance, energy, and reliability. The aim is to develop a systematic approach to optimize the heterogeneous system with programmable accelerators (GPU and FPGA) using neural networks.
As a PhD student, you will spend a minimum of 80% of your time on research studies. The rest will be spent on educational and/or administrative duties.
A successful applicant should have demonstrated practical skills of formulating and developing partitioned problems on heterogeneous architectures, i.e. harness the parallelism of multi-core processors, (GP) GPUs, and FPGAs.
Required qualifications:
• Master of Science in Computer Science or equivalent
• Fluent in English, both written and in conversation.
Beneficial qualifications:
• OpenCL/openMP
• Background in computer architecture, VLSI, and artificial intelligence
• Heterogeneous System Architecture, e.g. Zynq, HSA, Nvidia PTX
A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to conduct collaborative cross disciplinary research.
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
MDH in Eskilstuna and Västerås is one of Sweden's biggest university colleges with its 14 000 students and 900 employees. It has a long tradition of cooperating with society and has entered strategic agreements with both the public and the private sector. Most study programmes fall into four main areas: economy, health and welfare, education, and technology. With its research, which often takes the form of co-production on the regional, national and global levels, MDH aims to generate useful solutions for societal development. In 1999, MDH was the world's first university to be environmentally certified, and in 2006, it was the first higher education institution in Sweden to be certified for its work environment.
