Would you like to contribute to the safer use of medicines globally? We are looking for a physician or pharmacist to join our Signal Management team.
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a centre for international service and scientific research in the field of pharmacovigilance (PV). We manage the technical and operational aspects of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring (WHO PIDM). The organisation is the custodian of VigiBase, the largest global database of suspected adverse events of medicines and vaccines, with 35 million individual case safety reports from across the world.

What you will do
You will join UMC's Signal Management team, which consists of eight scientists with backgrounds in medicine or pharmacy. With support from UMC's Research department, the team regularly screens VigiBase to detect safety signals. A signal has been defined as information which suggests a new potentially causal association or a new aspect of a known association, between an intervention and an event or set of events.

Potential signals are prioritised for further investigation in consultation with UMC's external clinical experts. You will perform the clinical assessment of case series related to potential signals, which includes causality assessment and reviewing the scientific literature for additional evidence. Furthermore, you will critically review the in-depth assessments performed by your team members.

You will also participate in disseminating the findings. Our signals are primarily intended to alert and inform the national pharmacovigilance centres and regulatory authorities within the WHO PIDM. These organisations are responsible for evaluating the information and deciding for further action at a national level. Selected signals are also published in the WHO Pharmaceuticals Newsletter or peer-reviewed scientific journals, as well as presented at scientific conferences.

Aside from the signal work, which is a core UMC activity, you will share your expertise in collaborations with other teams within UMC, such as Education & Training and Research. The Signal Management team also works closely with WHO's pharmacovigilance team and the WHO advisory committees on the safety of medicinal products and vaccines.

This is a full-time position. It is based at UMC's office in the centre of Uppsala (Sweden), three minutes away from the railway and bus stations.
You

- Are proficient in scientific writing, with an eye for detail.
- Are fluent in written and spoken English.
