Ericsson 's Region IPR and Licensing organization is responsible for Ericsson 's global Intellectual Property Rights program and works closely with Ericsson 's entire R&D to secure technology and intellectual property leadership for Ericsson.
As an innovative company, patent portfolio generation is seen as a major tool in helping Ericsson to achieve its commercial objectives. Ericsson currently has some 42,000 granted patents and more than 100 patent-licensing agreements in place. Currently, the Patent Development part of the IPR and Licensing organization is looking for a talented Patent Attorney to strengthen our patent activities in Sweden. The Patent Development organization includes 10 major offices (patent units) in Sweden, Canada, Germany, England US, China, and some other smaller offices worldwide.
A Patent Attorney within the Patent Development organization is responsible for all aspects of patent generation and management, including coordination of external attorneys globally and advice on the commercial application of our patents. In addition to evaluating new patent ideas, drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications, the candidate will also be responsible for creation of patent portfolios and cooperate with Licensing and Business Management units to commercialize our patents. Consequently, an excellent working relationship must be established with colleagues within the whole global IPR and Licensing organization, where Patent Development plays a very important part, as well as inventors and R&D organizations within Ericsson.
The tasks will e.g. include:
Identification of patentable inventions
Evaluating, drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications
Handle oppositions and invalidations
Actively promote and create awareness of patenting/licensing within Ericsson
Handle questions from the R&D organization regarding IPR matters
Create, develop and maintain patent portfolios in cooperation with Strategy & Portfolio Management
Investigate licensing and divestment possibilities in co-operation with Licensing and Business Management

The current position is within Patent Unit RAN2 in Stockholm or Linköping, Sweden. PU-RAN2 has the main responsibility for patent development and management within Stockholm and Linköping sites for radio technology , i.e. 3G, 4G and 5G
Qualifications:
You have substantive patent attorney skills, particularly drafting and prosecution, although experience of other relevant areas such as claim charting will also be of interest
A minimum of 5 years ' experience of patent work is needed
If you have passed the European Qualifying exam (EQE) it is a plus. If you have not already passed the EQE we would like you start studies for this, which requires a considerable amount of self-studies
Excellent analytical and communication skills
You have good knowledge of technologies in the telecom field and having an interest in developing your knowledge further for continuous understanding of front edge telecommunications technology
You have a commercial sense of IP. You have at least an M. Sc. degree in telecommunications, computer science, information technology or similar
You have preferably excellent knowledge of European and international patent law and practice
You are well-organized, can work independently, and have a good sense of collaboration
You have excellent written and spoken English skills
This position is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Candidates in Linköping can also be considered. The selection and interview process is ongoing, therefore send in your application in English as soon as possible.
