AstraZeneca is now looking to hire a Package Design and Development Leader within Pharmaceutical Technology and Development. Placement for the role is at our site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PTD) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines and providing expert technical support to all AZ's commercial drug substances and products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients. Manufacturing Science and Technology provides Product Robustness (data analytics, validation strategy and product knowledge management), Technology Strategy and Process Engineering, and second line On Market Technical Support.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As the Package Design and Development Leader, you will lead package development for Medical devices, Combination products and a range of pharmaceutical products from concept through commercialization as a core member of cross-functional development programs. Core responsibilities include developing user needs, translating these to product requirements, and the selection and development of packaging concepts and technologies to meet the needs. The package design and development leader will

* Effectively apply knowledge of material science and engineering to guide material selection to ensure that final product meets design intent
* Ensure that all development activities are executed in alignment with the elements of design controls and appropriately documented
* Provide subject matter expertise in package selection in development and commercialization in global markets
* Support global Regulatory filings including authoring relevant sections of the dossier for EU, US, Japan and the rest of the world
* Provide technical assessments and technical support for key component changes
* Maintain an overview of state-of-the art technologies within packaging through understanding of technologies, clinical practice, regulatory environment, competitive and intellectual property landscape assessment in packaging
* Identify opportunities for innovative packaging solutions to address patient needs and business goals, and address these through an effective balance of internal vs. external development activities
* Drive Technology evaluation, selection and integration in packaging and create and maintain technology roadmaps
* Assess capability and capacity needs in packaging and build capability to deliver on portfolio needs

Essential Requirements

* BS Degree in Package Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 10 years work experience with a MS and 15 years with a BS in medical device packaging, or packaging of combination products in the biotechnology industry
* Understanding of design control elements and prior experience in developing products under these guidelines
* Knowledge of primary and secondary component materials/systems
* Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills



Desirable Requirements

* A background in materials engineering highly desired.
