In addition to our great people, we are proud to invite you to our prime location in the heart of Gothenburg, with modern and open office facilities.
Optical Engineer
We are seeking an Optical Engineer to strengthen our R&D team in developing future fingerprint systems for mobile phones and other portable devices.
Fingerprints is a leader in the development of capacitive fingerprint sensors and designs the whole system, from advanced custom silicon devices and microelectronic packaging, to algorithms and software for fingerprint recognition.
The role
As an Optical sensor research engineer you will contribute to our research and development efforts on novel optical fingerprint sensing concepts with the end goal of enabling in-display fingerprint sensing. Fingerprints' product offering is in constant motion and there is a need to bring in new technologies and radically different sensing concepts into our product portfolio. In some cases, the solutions come from combining existing technologies and therefore an important part of this position is to investigate the current state-of-the-art in related technology areas, analyze IP positions of such technologies and develop Fingerprints' internal IP to secure the long term competiveness of the company.
In this role, a strong emphasis is given to innovation and you will collaborate closely with a dedicated team to further develop Fingerprints' in-display sensing technology and to bring it to the market. You will play an important role in enhancing our optical design through modeling, simulation, as well as hands-on evaluation. Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Design optical systems for in-display fingerprint sensing.
• Analyze the design through simulations in terms of image quality and straylight sensitivity.
• Design experimental setups to verify the simulation results and carry out the required measurements and feedback the outcome in the next design iteration.
• Handle communication with suppliers as well as customers.
• Take part in patent filings.
The work location is Gothenburg but can be negotiated under certain circumstances.
International travel to Fingerprints' suppliers, partners, and customers may occur.
Your background
This role requires a Master of Science in Engineering, such as in electronics, physics, optics, or the equivalent. A doctoral degree or a research background in optics or a related field is a plus. Previous experience in optical design is a great advantage. With the right profile, less experienced candidates will be considered.
Success in this role requires:
• Experience in optical design and related software tools such as OpticStudio (Zemax), Code V, LightTools, or similar.
• Experience in high level technical programming language such as MATLAB, Python, or similar.
• Knowledge in and experience of both classical and physical optics.
• Understanding and some experience in working with CMOS image sensors.
• Interested in both theoretical and practical work.
• You need to be fluent in spoken and written English and not opposed to traveling abroad.
You also have essential qualities such as being ambitious, motivated and flexible. You need to be comfortable working in a dynamic company, where you will be expected to assume considerable personal responsibility for your own activities and the company's success. This also requires you to be a team player who contributes to an open and positive atmosphere in the workplace.
