At Volvo Materials Technology in Gothenburg we are a team of more than 30 highly qualified engineers. We support the development of Volvo's products by using our specialist knowledge within all stages of product development and in the aftermarket. You will belong to a team focusing within electrical hardware components. We are looking for a new colleague full of energy, ideas, and up-to-date competence within the field.
Materials Technology is organized within the section Verification, Testing and Materials Technology. We have a large modern laboratory with broad range of advanced equipment for testing and evaluation of material properties and behavior. We support the whole Volvo Group and its brands, worldwide within all its markets.
This is what you will do
Our aim is to work closely with the stakeholders within Volvo Group to understand their strategies and devise solutions to support and boost the competitive advantage. In addition we also support extensively in failure analysis of components and materials.
This opening focuses on the electrical technology in our products. The number of sensors, electrical connectors, PCBs, and wiring increases and at the same time the development of electromobility technologies is moving forward at full speed. The group also work with battery technology and different degradation phenomena on the battery pack. Therefore, experience in Li-ion batteries or similar battery chemistry, is needed.
To be successful in this role you will need to enjoy working cross functionally, in teams but also on your own, taking initiatives to drive the assignments. You will lead and execute development projects, perform failure analysis, and write engineering reports of high quality with analysis and recommendations for decisions. Moreover, you are expected to lead and help your team to set road maps within the technical area.
Performing failure analysis of prototype and production parts of example electronics, contactors and battery cells and provide recommended corrective actions will be part of the job, why you must be proficient to work in an advanced materials lab and perform hands on investigations. You will also be asked to take active part in continuous improvements of the laboratory, such as equipment responsibility and method development.
The position is based in Gothenburg. Travel may be needed occasionally.
This is you
We believe that you are an MSc or PhD in materials science or equivalent. Analytical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems is important within this role. While we are still developing within the field, you are expected to bring with your hands on knowledge to the team within the field.
You have a strong drive to improve as well as the ability to capture customers' needs and help them to materialize ideas to actions and test methods within the materials field. You can support Business Development with expert technical knowhow on electrical hardware components, batteries and related materials in customer interactions and follow up on requests.
Excellent teamwork spirit and communication skills is a must to be successful in this role. An international and open mindset will help you to reach collaboration with colleagues, universities and institutes around the globe. You must be fluent in English, both written and spoken, Swedish is a merit.
Hands-on experience and knowledge of materials for electrical hardware components, batteries as well as analytical equipment is necessary. Further on experience from failure analysis of electrical hardware is a strong merit. As the job include interaction with stake holders, personal attributes and behavior is something that will be part of the evaluation during the recruitment.
You have as minimum 10 years of work experience and are well-established in the industry, with solid understanding and experience of both technology and general business knowledge.
