Be part of an open and dynamic workplace where professional and personal development is high on the agenda. By making sustainable energy solutions more cost effective, developing new technologies for the future's smart industry and electrifying passenger and freight transport, we make reality of our vision of a sustainable world.
Combustion R&D department
There are about 40 persons who are responsible for the combustion system in our gas turbines portfolio. Our tasks are development of combustion systems on our existing gas turbines and future engines. We also give support to other departments such as manufacturing, sales, commissioning and service.
The challenge
In order to increase the life of our combustion systems, we have to understand the mechanical behavior of the components. The combustion chamber is a central part of a gas turbine and it is important to have a good life prediction of the component. In the development process we use finite element models to ensure structural reliability.
The goal of this project is to use a non-linear FE model to study crack propagation at highly loaded sections of the combustion chamber.
The proposed work is to be performed within 20 weeks and includes; FE model creation, boundary condition application together with non-linear fracture mechanic models for crack propagation, stress/life calculations and life prediction. Previous experience with FE programs and visco-plastic calculations is a requirement.
We prefer that the work is started during winter 2018/2019 and is finished in the spring/summer of 2019.
Who are you?
The project fits you who are:
Student of Master degree in mechanical engineering, materials science or similar.
Interested in advanced FE methods and material behavior.
A well-driven person with a problem solving mindset.
Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB offer products and solutions for generating sustainable and resource efficient electricity. Our customers include utilities, independent power producers and companies in the oil and gas industry.
