Expansive Worlds is a creative division of Avalanche Studios Group and a leading developer and publisher of outdoor games. Since 2009, Expansive Worlds has been devoted to delivering highly immersive outdoor gaming experiences for millions of players and is best known for the long-standing and successful theHunter franchise.

We are now looking for a Lead Designer to work on Call of the Wild: The Angler during its 'Live Service' phase. With the goal to grow the existing audience over the long term to become one of the leading fishing titles across both console and PC. Ideally this position will be based in our office in Liverpool, but Stockholm is an option for the right candidate.

The Position
As the Lead Designer, you will work closely with the product team to manage a compelling roadmap of features and content that'll delight and surprise an audience of Anglers. You will be responsible for communicating that direction to the broader team, so that they can work with focus and clarity. All whilst collaborating with the other cross-discipline leads to deliver an experience that meets the quality expectations of our audience within a live environment.

Your role will require you to make key decisions about systems, content, game balance, and managing a sustainable game experience for years to come. As well as getting hands on at times, implementing, tuning or balancing features within the Apex engine in collaboration with the design team.

You will be responsible for managing a design team on a day to day basis, guiding them along the right path, whilst at the same time giving them the freedom to learn and improve. Alongside that you will help mentoring the design team, and work directly with the craft leads to ensure the right training and support is in place for them to grow.

In addition to managing, you'll also be expected to produce and present documentation, as well as review others' work with constructive feedback.

The ideal candidate will have a mixture of the following skills, qualifications and experience
Seniority within game design, with at least 5 years of industry experience.
Ideally with some experience working in a community driven, live service environment.
Strong leadership skills with experience working as a mentor, manager, lead or similar role.
Be able to provide clear direction and confidently pitch ideas to individuals at all levels of the company.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to utilise soft skills to motivate others, give feedback, and manage conflicts.
Good production knowledge to assist with high level plans as well as user stories, task breakdowns and estimates.
The ability to work closely with other departments, with an understanding of dependencies and overlapping systems.
Knowledge and understanding of open world game design, and how systemic systems function in sandbox environments.
Able to scope effectively to strike the right balance between achievability, cost and quality. A passion for evangelizing ideas to teams, external parties or communities.
A desire to work closely with communities, user research and data to inform design decisions.
Knowledge of freshwater Fishing and ideally some real world fishing experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
