GENERAL PRESENTATION
Läkare Utan Gränser, or Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), in Sweden was founded by Swedish doctors in 1993. As a partner in the international MSF movement, MSF Sweden contributes to saving lives and alleviating suffering where we are needed the most, by securing stable financing and recruiting qualitative human resources to fit the needs of operations, and raising awareness of medical humanitarian crises among the general public and by provoking change for the populations we assist.
The Head of Fundraising (HoFR) is responsible for all private fundraising of MSF Sweden and the strategies that lead us to reach our fundraising targets. The HoFR reports to the General Director, co-ordinates with the other heads of department and is part of the management team of MSF Sweden. The HoFR manages the fundraising team, consisting of 12 full time positions and several short term positions and collaborates actively with the international MSF fundraising networks.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Responsible for:
• All non-governmental fundraising by MSF in SwedenDeveloping and carrying out the overall private fundraising strategies
• Making sure the teams understand the links between daily activities and overall strategies
• The well functioning and efficiency of, and good atmosphere in, the fundraising team
In practice, this means:
• Responsible for setting up and ensuring the annual fundraising plan and budget, in collaboration with the fundraising team in general and the team member in charge of each specific area(s)
• Analysing results and donor behaviour
• Following up on decisions, strategies and results
• Responsible for ensuring a strong fundraising infrastructure for MSF Sweden, with a well functioning donor database, adequate and cost-efficient use of partners and suppliers, updated and functional technical solutions, and available and well updated donor service
• Responsible for decisions on major collaborations, campaigns or corporate partnerships together with the concerned fundraising team member. Depending on the scope of the collaboration, the decision is taken together with the GD and, when applicable, the board
• Making sure MSF Sweden follows all ethical aspects of fundraising, including international policies, MSF Sweden's policies as well as general Swedish law, policies and guidelines
• Following fundraising issues within the MSF movement by actively participating in international meetings, initiating and participating in discussions on fundraising and funding policies, and working for international structures and policies for private funding within the movement
• Sharing information within the department and with other departments
• Monitoring and updating on new ideas, techniques and possibilities that could raise funds and/or recruit donors to MSF Sweden
• Responsible for the department cost-budget and sound financial management
• Representing the fundraising team in the management team and vice versa
• Managing the staff in terms of career development, trainings and performance as well as maintaining good admin structures (time reports, weekly and monthly reports, evaluations, job descriptions, leave requests etc)
• Responsible for the daily supervision of all fundraising team members in charge of a strategic area (the corporate fundraiser, the acquisition and campaigns fundraiser, the major donors and legacies and foundations fundraiser, the loyalty fundraiser, the fundraising editor, the Face-to-face project leader and the donor service responsible)
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Academic degree, preferably in marketing and/or economy
• Minimum 5 years of fundraising experience
• Strong experience and willingness to manage and develop a team and its members
• Extensive knowledge of the Swedish fundraising market with experience and skills in marketing strategies
• Good knowledge of humanitarian principles and values
• Analytical and structured approach to fundraising
• Fluency in Swedish and English, written and spoken and excellent user of common IT tools (including MS Excel)
VALUABLE
• Certified fundraiser
• Previous MSF experience and other international experience
• Experience in customer database
• French
