Subject area
Exploring the role and mechanism of global epigenetic changes in B cell leukemia and lymphoma
Subject area description
Recent advancements in genome-wide DNA and histone methylation analysis enable us to identify significant genes with prognostic and therapeutic values for which the functions are largely still unknown. In B cell leukemia there are well established genetic prognostic markers, but very limited knowledge exists regarding the global epigenetic studies. Since, epigenetic changes are reversible and are being aggressively pursued for therapeutic interventions, characterizing in detail the role and mechanism of these global epigenetic changes in B cell leukemia and lymphoma is very important.
Job assignments
The main aim of the project is to characterize the role of global DNA methylation changes including other epigenetic modifications such as global DNA hydroxymethylation and histone methylation profiling to understand and unfold the mechanism behind the origin and progression of these disease entities. Finally, the functional role of selected differentially methylated protein coding genes and ncRNAs will be explored using larger leukemia patient cohorts that can have prognostic and diagnostic values.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
Highly enthusiastic with excellent intellectual and technical expertise in the area of cancer research will be preferred for this project. Highly experienced in all the basic molecular techniques (Cloning, Real timer PCR, etc), Immuno techniques (Westerns, Immuno histochemisty etc.), Flow cytometry, Chromatin Immunoprecipitation assays and Cell culture techniques (Primary cells and cancer cell lines) is required.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
