The Digital Radio Implementation unit is one of several units responsible for the development of new radio hardware units, which is part of base stations development within Ericsson for GSM, WCDMA, LTE, 5G and future standards. The team is involved in all parts of the product development process; technical studies, research, pre-development and designs for high volume products. The main technical responsibility for the team is the antenna near signal processing blocks implemented in ASIC, FPGA and/or structured ASIC circuits.
Job Description
Your main responsibility will be taking part in a team proposing and selecting ASIC/FPGA system architecture for our digital radio solutions, to ensure high value products for our customers.
The work as an ASIC/FPGA Architect includes, but are not limited to:
Being a trusted technical advisor to in and outside our team
Drive the architectural choices to ensure high value products for our customers
Work with identifying new opportunities based on expansion of existing, as well as creating new, solutions meeting the needs of our customers
Perform feasibility assessments and recommend/review product definitions with PM, TME, and other relevant groups, as applicable.
Perform system solution analysis, which includes gathering, and understanding, requirements and specifications.
Take part in determining the technical scope, and assist with product programs for our digital radio products
Take part in technical response to RFQs and RFPs.
Keeping up to date on industry, radio standards, etc.
Position Qualifications
A Master Degree, or PhD, in electrical engineering, engineering physics or similar work experience, preferably with emphasis on signal processing
7+ years of work experience within FPGA, ASIC and/or electronic development
2+ years of hands-on experience in system-level design and IC micro-architecture definition of complex digital signal ASIC and FPGA circuits.
Experience in designing systems using ASIC or FPGA solutions is required
Demonstrated ability to solve complex system-level problems
Practical experience in developing technical proposals
System Experience in one or more of the following Areas:
Signal Processing Algorithms (DPD/CFR), MIMO, Adaptive Antenna, etc.
Physical channel characteristic, Modulation, Multiplexing, Channel coding, Beamforming, etc.
Microwave/E-band PtP Backhaul Platforms - Modem Processing (LDPC/RS, XPIC, A-DPD, 2048/4096 QAM, etc.), ADC/DAC front-end, Packet Processing, etc.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are an essential requirement for this role
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualification
Logic fundamentals, ASIC and/or FPGA design (VHDL/Verilog)
Experience in ASIC Emulation on FPGA and/or low level software debugging on prototyping platforms is strongly desired
Electrical engineering background in signal processing, practical transceiver architecture design, filter design, and embedded system design
Board design experience including familiarity with different IO related capabilities in FPGA is desired
Sound technical background and knowledge of FPGA, DSP, ARM Processors, embedded SW/RTOS, and Sub-system micro-architectures
Simulation (MTI, VCS, NC-Verilog), Synthesis, Place & Route and Verification techniques
Proficiency in MATLAB, Verilog, or similar simulation, design and modeling tools.
