About us
The activities within the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences are characterized by a creative and dynamic environment, including a highly collaborative atmosphere, modern facilities, and excellent interaction with the surrounding community. The PhD student position is offered within the area of informatics, which at the University of Skövde, is defined as the science that studies how information is represented, processed and communicated in artificial and natural systems and how such systems are used and developed in order to achieve usable and effective applications and solutions for individuals, organizations or society. The PhD degree awarded will be in the area of Informatics.
Your role
Swedish organizations and companies today need to use a wide range of security controls to counteract disruptions and cyberattacks against their information and communication technology. However, the decision-making processes for determining which security controls are appropriate to invest in are limited by the assets and resources available, requiring prioritization to effectively manage various cybersecurity risks. The project's focus is on supporting Swedish organizations and companies to make financially sound decisions regarding the protection of their information and communication technology that is based on and adapted to their conditions. During your time as a Ph.D. student, you will play a central role in the project where you will, among others, research to:
• map cyber security economic models based on their characteristics, modeling variables and assumptions;
• empirically examine challenges when organizations and businesses adopt financial models for cybersecurity; and
• develop a framework and supporting tools to help organizations and businesses identify appropriate financial models that fit their circumstances.
The position involves doctoral studies (80%) and institutional duties (teaching and administrative tasks equivalent to 20%).
Additional duties may be involved in the position.
We are looking for candidates who have:
• Obtained a degree at advanced level, or completed at least 240 higher education credits (ECTS), of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or acquired essentially equivalent knowledge within or outside Sweden.
• Completed course requirements of at least 60 higher education credits (ECTS), including independent thesis work comprising at least 15 higher education credits at an advanced level, in the field of Informatics, related applied areas, or other subject areas deemed directly relevant to dissertation work within the field of Informatics.
• Documented English language proficiency equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
This can also be demonstrated by an internationally recognized test such as IELTS (overall score of 6.5), TOEFL (total score of 90), PTE (total score of 62), etc.
We will also evaluate the candidates based on the following assessment criteria:
• Proficient in acquiring education at the doctoral level in informatics.
• Documented strong collaborative skills.
• Documented good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in English.
• Documented ability to plan, organize, and achieve set goals in one's work.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Swedish, both verbally and in written form.
• Basic knowledge in economics and mathematics.
• Professional experience in information security and/or completed courses in information security.
• Documented experience in applying qualitative and quantitative analysis methods.
• Experience in teaching at the basic or advanced level.
• Documented experience in web development.
In this position, significant emphasis will be placed on the documented experience in applying qualitative and quantitative analysis methods, as well as documented ability to plan, organize, and achieve set goals in one's work and ability to communicate effectively in Swedish, both verbally and in written form.
Forms of employment: The employment is a fixed-term employment up to and including the completion of a doctoral degree, however, for a maximum of 5 years. The scope of employment is 100%, of which 80% doctoral studies and 20% departmental service. Salary is paid in accordance with a local agreement on a salary ladder for postgraduate students. Only those who are admitted or have already been admitted to a doctoral program may be employed as doctoral students.
