Computational Chemist/Computer Scientist (Virtual Screening)

AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

The arena
This role is in the Computational Chemistry team within the Chemistry Innovation Center (CIC) and will be located in Gothenburg/Sweden. It has a special focus on new technology development and application in the area of virtual chemistry and virtual screening.

Discovery Sciences is part of the global Innovative Medicines (iMED) organisation and provides scientific support to early drug discovery across the global iMED portfolio. Discovery Sciences is into distinct scientific and technical competencies: Sample Management, Screening Sciences, Reagents and Assay Development, Structure and Biophysics, Statistics, Chemistry Innovation, and Externalisation.

The Chemistry Innovation Center (CIC) is responsible for the identification and application of novel chemistry technologies with the aim to drive target identification and hit finding in three principal areas: Fragment-based Lead Generation, Chemical Biology, and Computational Chemistry.

The role
We currently have two openings with the following focus:

To develop, apply, and lead technology development and science in the field of Virtual Screening and Virtual Chemistry with a demonstrable impact on projects through the development of tools that enhance the hit identification and hit creation capabilities of computational and medicinal chemists. Key elements of the role include the development and exploitation of novel computational and cheminformatics technology for use by medicinal and computational chemists across Innovative Medicines.

To devise, champion and develop the scientific area of Virtual Screening and Virtual Chemistry that aligns with the iMED Hit Identification Futures project. The role holder will be an authority in a particular scientific area, and lead from a perspective to make significant contributions to the practical delivery of project goals. Might coach and support more junior scientists by advising and challenging them, but also by providing expert advice and interpretation of complex data. Provides disciplinary scientific leadership and might represent the department at interdisciplinary meetings internally as well as externally.

Minimum experience
